Tai 3 Roof Equipment and Drone Edition Buying Checks

A roof-mounted system changes more than the appearance of a Tai 3. It can affect equipment identity, usable roof space, clearance and the support needed after export. Inspect the actual roof and verify the production configuration before deciding that a drone package can be removed, retrofitted or replaced by luggage bars. A photograph of another edition is not an installation instruction.

Identify what was fitted at production

Request the build configuration, VIN and photographs of the complete roof, controls and supplied equipment. Keep a factory package separate from later accessories. The official configuration notes describe restrictions for the listed drone package, including retrofit and removal limitations; check the applicable version rather than generalising across every production year. Use the Tai 3 naming and identity guide to avoid accepting an older concept image or a differently equipped car as proof of what is included. After identifying roof equipment, use the garage and parking clearance assessment for the destination space.

Examine the package as a complete system

If drone equipment is part of the sale, inventory each included component, controller, protective case, documentation and any supplied charging equipment. Record the condition of accessible housings, seals and mounting areas without dismantling them. A working roof mechanism does not establish that all detachable equipment is present. Ask for a lawful, safe demonstration by a competent operator where permitted. Do not accept an incomplete accessory set simply because the vehicle itself can be driven normally.

Separate vehicle ownership from flying permission

Buying the car does not grant permission to operate a drone at destination. Before assigning value to the package, ask the relevant local aviation authority about the intended use, registration and operating requirements. Also confirm carrier rules for separately transported equipment and batteries. This article does not establish legal approval in any country. A buyer who cannot use or support the system locally may rationally prefer a simpler configuration, even if the advertised package originally carried a substantial premium.

Check roof use and opening clearance

Document whether the selected roof arrangement permits any additional carrier and obtain the applicable vehicle and accessory limits. Do not attach a tent or box around a factory system using improvised mounts. Check clearance for any glass or moving component using the manufacturer procedure, not trial and error. Measure the actual vehicle height with its equipment and compare it with parking and transport limits. Keep roof load and total vehicle payload as separate, simultaneous constraints when planning luggage.

Test accounts and equipment support

Ask which functions need a phone, account, subscription, mobile service or regional support. Confirm the supported ownership transfer for each connected component and do not rely on the former owner’s login. The Tai 3 software and region checks apply to the car, but accessory support may involve another service channel. Record unavailable features explicitly. A video captured in China does not prove the same application, map service or remote function will be available to the buyer abroad.

Inspect previous work around the roof

Look for disturbed fasteners, non-original sealant, cracked covers, water staining and explanations of replaced components. A visual discrepancy is a reason for further inspection, not a diagnosis by itself. Ask a qualified workshop to assess any mounting or water-ingress concern. Do not remove specialised equipment merely to see what is underneath. If a repair needs parts unavailable at destination, include that constraint in the purchase decision rather than assuming a general body shop can reconstruct the assembly.

Put a practical value on the equipment

Price the vehicle with the package as delivered, including missing items, support limitations and transport requirements. A buyer seeking ordinary urban use may prefer documented simplicity over equipment they cannot use. If the roof arrangement is essential, make complete identification and satisfactory inspection part of acceptance. The seller should not substitute a different roof configuration after the quotation without fresh approval. Keep the final manifest and photographs so the arrival agent can identify missing or damaged items promptly.

Example: the buyer wants a roof tent instead

A buyer likes the drone-edition vehicle but intends to remove the equipment and install a tent. Treat that as a different, unverified configuration rather than a simple accessory swap. Check the manufacturer restrictions and approved roof use first. If support is absent, source a configuration that demonstrably suits the intended use instead of promising a conversion after export.

Buyer checklist

  • Match roof equipment to the production configuration.
  • Inventory every included accessory and controller.
  • Confirm local operating rules and support separately.
  • Measure height and document any approved additional load.

Questions and answers

Can I assume the factory drone system is removable?

No. The manufacturer lists restrictions for its specified package. Verify the applicable configuration and obtain proper guidance before considering any alteration.

Does buying the drone-equipped car allow flying abroad?

No. Vehicle purchase and local aviation permission are separate. Confirm the relevant authority’s requirements and carrier conditions before valuing that feature.
